Shiloh Writing Project

Due ___ / ___ / ___

Ready for a tricky writing project? I hope so! All along while reading Shiloh, I said that Judd Travers was the character to watch. He changes a lot from start to finish, from being mean to Marty to giving him a new collar for Shiloh. Why? Look over the book at your character marks for him as well as for Marty, especially in the last two chapters. Consider Judd’s childhood for his behavior toward his dogs (you should have a character mark for that earlier in the novel). Then, beginning where Judd shoots the deer out of season in front of Marty, rewrite the end of the book from Judd’s perspective showing his thoughts as he changes.

Keep these things in mind as you begin to write:

a. You’ll write using “I” for Judd.

b. Remember, Judd does NOT think he is a bad or mean, even though he acts meanly to his dogs, Shiloh, and Marty.

c. Use the dialog (talking) that is in the book. You may copy dialog for this assignment, but you can’t use the rest because they’re Marty’s thoughts. You need to imagine Judd’s thoughts using what you know about him.

d. Indent for a new paragraph each time you change speaker, place, time, or an idea in your story.

e. Be sure to follow the rubric carefully. Your paper will be graded to it. You should be able to get a pretty good idea of your grade before you even give me your paper.

f. See Mr. Coxon for your minimum length requirement.
